The Mind !

The mind is the single biggest friend or the worst enemy ever that you can have.

About and hour ago I was terribly worried over something work related. I imagined all the bad things that could ever happen, worked up more worry, more worry and finally get frustrated of it all.
Then I sat for a while and read a bit from one of Babaji's books. And then I calmed down. And felt a lot better.
None of the circumstances have changed, since I started worrying ... All my "troubles" are still as existant or non-existant as they ever were ...

The fear of something is always worse than the thing itself. I am sure everyone know's what I'me talking about.
The mind should be given just enough freedom not too little not too much.

Thats true to its roots. I being a person knowing of illnesses started feeling to have all symptoms of a dreadful illness as I had a single symptom of it which could explained by many other simple ailments. Mind is the culprit that keeps us in comfort or crunches us in pain.

THe word mind means a lot.

I want to know in which context mind is used.

Is it the manas = the ever unsettled.

is it Buddhi = the decider.

is it the chittam = the one which feels bad for something in the past. Chintinchedi chittam

or
is it ahamkaaram == which says I am Anagha or Avadooth, Female or Male, this Age,this profession etc

If it is used as intelligence plz lemme know

Ah, it's what I would call a "mind-out-of-time" - I think we each need to remember that there is only now, but that is easier said than done. It's easy for people to say, "don't worry, it will be OK", but no matter how much they say it, the worry is there. It is a "what if" thing. And tends to be negative.

In my zazen, I aim to become the observer. Watching my mind as thoughts about this and about that try to threaten my well-being. Focusing on the worry rather than trying to side-step it. Then suddenly it disappears into the "puff of wind" it really is.

As you say, the problem will remain, but that is what life is about. This over-worrying is but a dream that occurs whilst my mind is in every-day waking consciousness, which of course, is also but a dream!

Every good spiritual quest starts at

trying to observe thoughts/feelings as seperate from the one who is observing
i.e. to be an observer.....

it develops into

observing the observer.........

finally, he/she/it becomes a realized person/thing by experiencing the non-dual nature of the observer and the feelings/thoughts.(i.e the observer and the feelings are inseperable). this person becomes a guru.

Satguru is some one who is always in a state of complete silence. He is neither the observer nor the feelings.

how can you say and proove that this is all a dream.

do you mean a spiritual seeker should always take this world and life as a dream?

what is the end point you want to achieve by trying to be an observer or being an observer?

do yo mean to say that my thoughts are detrimental to my observer state?

Hi Avadooth,

Is not the moment immediately gone? Therefore is not what we are aware of immediately in the domain of the past? Is the past not therefore a dream? It cannot be re-captured experientally. Each I think, has to find his/her own proof. Nobody can give such proof only point to it.

What end is there in infinity which is beyond the ability of the reasoning mind? At the moment, I feel I am on the journey. The destination? Ultimate enlightenment? A Zen master would say, "throw it away if you find it!"

You think, I think. In meditation there are thoughts all clamouring for our attention. Without them there would be no challenge, yet if we can just get that absolute stillness of "no thought" for a moment, I think we can get a glimpse of enlightenment. Of course the glimpse is not the thing itself. Again, it's the journey, not the destination..

Please do not take what I say as absolute truth - do not make a belief system out of it. What I write is what I get from my meditations and truth seems to be constantly transforming and one thing I've realised is that everybody comes to it from their own particular point in their development.

Moments are gone but present tense is not gone.

where is the person who is saying that "moments are gone"?
he is in the present tense.

the flaw in your reasoning is you are starting as "isnt the moment immediately gone". I am asking about the present moment and you are starting with "immediately gone moment (which is a past moment)". and you proved that past is a dream ( i appreciate that). but tht is not my question.

present tense is something that is experienced now.

the experiences keep on changing. ONe experience takes the place of the preceding one. The preceding one is now past. But, what about the experiences that are happening now.

with every "immediately gone moment" there is one "immediately present moment" which is the real present tense and my question is how can this present tense that is always there be called a dream.


i think i tried to make my question clear.

kindly clear my doubt.

If God is supreme, and if the soul is more powerful than the mind,
If our mind is fleeting,
then why even bother about happiness and sadness that the mind creates? Why not just endure, suffer, enjoy whatever we are made to feel?

but practically speaking,
someone talked about an oberserver state.
I have heard about it before and I also realized it sometimes comes to me naturally without effort, but with concentration you will definitely see the pointlessness in any worry. I think it has something to do with try to see yourself as a second person trying to deal with something.
just observation, no action necessary :)

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOUR SECOND COMMENT HERE.

observation (state) is natural to everyone (humans and animals and infact everything).

No action is necessary to be in observational state.

OBSERVATIONAL STATE IS ALWAYS,YES, ALWAYS PRESENT. "IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SOMETIMES COMES AND GOES"

THERE IS NOTHING CALLED TRYING TO BE AN OBSERVER.

THE OBSERVER IS THE BEGINING OF ALL SPIRITUAL QUESTS.

KNOWING THE SELF IS VERY VERY VERY EASY AND NATURAL.

what is Soul?


if mind creates happiness and sorrow, why is the mind ever searching for happiness? why cant it just create happiness?

what is happiness?

In response to Anaghs ramblings The MiND iam reminded of Guruji , Paramahansa yoganandas teachings taken from HOW TO LIVE SERIES .
Thought is the matrix of all creation , Thought created everything .If you hold on to that truth with indomitable will , you can materialize any thought .
It is always better to have positive thoughts and ideas in day to day life as the fear of something is due to negative thoughts and imagined negative consequences .

Hope this is useful and i would like to convey heartfull of appreciation to every one involved in making this blog.
